Dressers
A practical way to neatly store your clothes as well as an attractive piece of furniture that stands out on its own, dressers provide a storage solution that is both functional and stylish. Containing anywhere from three to 10 drawers, learn how to choose the perfect dresser to complement your bedroom with our buying guide.

Dressers are generally considered to be wide and low. They can include six or more drawers set side by side, or three long drawers.

A chest of drawers, or a tall dresser, is tall and narrow, with up to five or six drawers stacked on top of each other.

F.A.Q.

What size dresser should you choose?

When deciding on dresser size, two things to consider are the available space in your room and your storage needs. For smaller bedrooms or a space with minimal storage needs, a small dresser around 28-34 inches wide, 30 inches tall, and 16-20 inches deep will do the trick. A medium-sized dresser balances the space it provides to store things and the area it takes up on the floor. They measure approximately 38-48 inches wide, 34 inches tall, and 18-20 inches deep. Finally, a large dresser, around 50-60 inches wide, 36-44 inches tall, and 20-24 inches deep, is most appropriate for big bedrooms and closets or when multiple people share the storage space.

What are the different types of dressers available?

You can find dressers in several categories:

Standard horizontal: This is what most people imagine when they think of a dresser. These designs usually have two to four rows of drawers.

Vertical: Also called "tallboy" dressers, these are slightly taller and have less width to save on floor space.

Combo: These dressers combine drawers with shelving, a cabinet, or a mirror attachment to create a multipurpose storage solution.

Lingerie chest: Taller and narrower than standard size, lingerie chests are perfect for storing smaller, more delicate items.

Media chest: As the name suggests, media chests are designed to hold electronics in the bedroom and usually have open shelving or a system to help you manage wires.

Can dressers be used outside of your bedroom?

Although technically bedroom furniture, you can use a dresser in other rooms of the house, and you don't have to store clothing there either! A dresser can become a media center in the living room, family room, or home office. In a hallway, the dresser top transforms into a place to put your keys or mail, while the drawers become part of your storage solutions to stow winter boots, hats, umbrellas, or anything else! Dressers can even find a home in the garage to help keep tools and miscellaneous items organized. You can also use one as a sideboard in the dining room for storing linens, cutlery, and dishes. A dresser is a great storage solution for needs all around the home.
